The Travel Writing Competition 2023, hosted by Ottawa Tourism, is an esteemed competition targeting individuals who have a passion for travel writing and aims to showcase outstanding travel writing featuring Canada's Capital Region. With a generous annual prize of $500 CAD, this competition seeks to recognize and reward exceptional talent in capturing the essence of Ottawa as a travel destination.
Previous Winners
The competition has a history of honoring remarkable travel writers. In 2022, Christopher Mitchell emerged as the winner, impressing the judges with his captivating piece titled "Cycling in the National Capital Region: The Best Biking in Ottawa and Outaouais." Furthermore, Dan Rubinstein received an honorable mention for his thought-provoking article, "Grooming optimism: How Nordic trails spread positivity in dark times," which can be found on pages 75-76 of the fall 2022 issue of Mountain Life magazine.
Eligibility and Entry Requirements
The Travel Writing Competition 2023 is open to all individuals who possess a flair for travel writing. Entries must be in English or French and should have been published in magazines, newspapers, or online media during the year 2022. To submit an entry, participants are required to include a PDF or link to the article, along with their name, address, email address, and telephone number. Additionally, the name of the publication and the date of publication must be provided. There is no entry fee, and participants are allowed to submit multiple articles, provided each entry is submitted separately. The articles must emphasize Ottawa as a captivating travel destination.
Submission Deadline
All entries for the Travel Writing Competition 2023 must be received by 5:00pm on Friday, February 2, 2024. Submissions should be sent via email to press@ottawatourism.ca.
