About the Competition
Founded by the renowned BBC Aeronautics Correspondent Reg Turnill and his wife, Margaret, the HG Wells Short Story Competition aims to celebrate the life and works of the legendary HG Wells while promoting creative writing, particularly among young individuals.
Theme and Categories
The theme for this year's competition is "Motion." Entrants are encouraged to explore the broadest interpretation of the theme, allowing their imagination to take flight. There are two categories available:
- Authors aged 21 and under (on 10th July 2023): Junior category with a tempting prize of £1,000 (Rs. 1L+)
- Authors aged 22 and above (on 10th July 2023): Senior category with an enticing prize of £500 (Rs. 50k+)
Submission and Entry Fee
To submit your captivating stories, simply attach your entry as a Word, ODF, PDF, or text document through the convenient online entry form. Each form allows only one entry/story, so complete separate forms for multiple stories.
Note that entry fees are applicable for participants aged 22 and over. Payment can be made securely through PayPal or using a debit/credit card during the submission process. Students with valid student ID can avail a reduced entry fee of £5 (approx. Rs. 500).
Competition Rules and Guidelines
It is vital to carefully read and adhere to the competition rules before submitting your stories. The guidelines specify formatting requirements and emphasize the importance of maintaining anonymity throughout the submission process. Remember, the judges evaluate all entries "blind," so ensure your name or address does not appear anywhere in your uploaded document.
